End Of 2022: Reflections Of A Capoeirista

Despite what you might have thought, 2022 proved to be one of the more challenging years of my life; though not particularly in a negative sense. There was a short period of time where I thought my business was going to take off until the summertime slowdown kicked in. Then, I thought that my social media presence would blow up with my new content design and message–until it didn’t to the degree I had hoped.

Finally, comes capoeira. Not in terms of where I place its importance in my life, nonetheless. I have been progressing in capoeira! Both subjectively and objectively, my technique is improving! I’m also enjoying the time spent with my capoeira group here in NYC along with the teachings that only come with spending time in the roda. However, much of my journey has left me reflecting on a belief that I share with my clients in the rehab and performance space: focusing on short term goals is the most effective way to progress.

I follow many well-seasoned capoeiristas. I admire their commitment to the art of capoeira and, as many capoeiristas and non-capoeiristas alike would admit, their qualities of movement make your eyeballs jump out! Needless to say, I’m not there yet. If I compared myself to those capoeiristas, I am most certainly not up to par. However, if I compare myself to myself from last year, I’ve made tremendous progress! The challenge is now to focus on cleaning up my technique and building the blocks required for more advanced movements.

I’m looking forward to providing better quality physical therapy and training services to you in 2023 along with fine tuning my capoeira practice. I hope you enjoyed this along with the rest of my blog content!
